EQ: How does the bow affect intonation, rhythm, and tone?

Monday: A major Scale and Arpeggio.....what is in the key signature and how high is a sharp? Purple Book page 17.....stop pony and pony stop rhythms. Open String Warm-up and BG#1
Pieces: Learn the unison portion of Mouse March and cellos will work on the melody at 5 in End Pin Rag. 5th period: Fiddle Pieces.....we must get them faster and flashy : )

Tuesday: A major Scale with pony stop rhythms, rhythmic dictation....listen and write down the rhythm that i play. Rhythm powerpoint with garage band beat and purple book pages 17 and 18.
Pieces: continue work from yesterday with emphasis on bow placement....what part of the bow do yo play eighth notes in? 5th period: Fiddle pieces.....we will do this daily with Chelsea in a Box to get them faster. Dragon Dances the strawberry walk walk rhythm with slurs and Hot Potato....can we pass the melody around and make it sound the same between sections?

Wednesday: A major scale and arpeggios, purple book test, and open string warm-up.
Pieces: We will play Mouse march while marching....think of a marching band, how do we achieve that sound/ feeling? The cellos will perform End Pin Rag to measure 22 for the class for a grade. 5th period: continue work from yesterday and we will record so you can evaluate yourselves.

Thursday and Friday: MC will not be in class so you all will be working in sectionals on the following pieces:
4th period violins and violas: Mouse March and Dance Scenario
4th period cello and bass: End Pin Rag

5th period 1st violins: Irish Suite
5th period 2nd violins and violas: Fiddle Pieces and Hot Potato
5th period cellos and basses: Dragon Dances and Hot Potato

Friday each section will play for the class and you will grade each other. Your warm-ups are still due on Friday and I will check them on Monday.

Learning Goals:
  1. A major scale(High 3rd finger and forward extensions)
  2. Understanding of 16th notes and how to combine them with other rhythms
  3. How to match bow styles, placement, and articulation so that it sounds like one person/ section is playing continuously.
