Practice makes perfect, which is why you did not have a test today on Zydeco Two-Step. I am so happy that we played from the beginning to the end because now it is time to begin learning End Pin Rag.

What is a rag?

Rag actually is short for ragtime which is music with a syncopated melody, similar to jazz music except the piano is the primary instrument instead of many instruments or a band. Scott Joplin was famous for Ragtime music especially his pieces, The Entertainer and Maple Rag. We will listen to Maple Rag along with Tiger Rag tomorrow during class, can you describe the timbre of Ragtime and how do you think this music was used when it was popular?
