Wednesday: vibrato exercises, F major scale--intro....what is the key signature and how is a scale put together? Shifting exercises, Purple book--eighth notes off the beat and F major exercises. Sight-read African Bell Carol---what are the five sight-reading steps?

5th period: intonation exercise (melodic dictation), purple book eighth notes on and off the beat. Review Irish Suite page one--how do you count in 6/8 and how do you play in the Irish style? All sections except 1st violins are accompaniment, how does this affect the way you play?

Thursday: vibrato exercises, shifting exercise, and F major scale--write the scale on your warm-up and explain how to put a scale together. Purple book--eighth notes off the beat and F major exercises. Begin learning the first melodic motif in African Bell Carol----mark all accidentals and low 2's....air bow the motif to learn the appropriate bowing for a piece in 1.

5th period: intonation exercise (melodic dictation--write this on your warm-up) and rhythmic exercise. Purple book eighth notes off the beat--play for a grade in sections. Continue working on Irish suite---skip to Irish Washerwoman and all sections will learn the main melody. We will use techniques 1 and 2 (see the main blog or the board in the Orchestra room for specifics).

Friday: purple book test, vibrato exercises, and continue African Bell Carol

5th period: melodic dictation and purple book test. Continue working on Irish Suite--Irish Washerwoman.
