EQ: What techniques are needed to play music from other cultures?

Monday: Open String Warm-up, Bow Grip Exercise #1, G scale with arpeggios--you actually need to practice this because scales and arpeggios create music. We will begin having a daily grade on scales and arpeggios to monitor you progress in learning these fundamentals. We will also play these scales in the style of these pieces: Zydeco Two Step(swing) and El Toro (. Purple Book--we are going to skip ahead to the 16th note part of your book to prepare you for Bio Rhythms and Mouse March. Pieces--we will continue learning the melody sections of Zydeco Two Step and also learn how to properly accompany the melody. 5th period: We will work on the 2nd half of El Toro and making sure that our bow strokes are the same in the first half.

Tuesday: Rhythm Warm-up, G Scale with arpeggios using the rhythm from your warm-up--remember you will have a daily grade on this scale and arpeggio. Purple Book--16th notes and eighth notes off the beat. Pieces--Each section will play their melodies from Zydeco for a grade. 5th period: continue working on El Toro the 2nd half.

Wednesday: Open String Warm-up, Listening Log (the song will be on immediately after tuning), BG #1, Purple Book---play for a grade as a section. G scale and arpeggio for a grade. Pieces: Now that your melodies are learned how does the accompaniment support the melody? Cellos will begin working End Pin rag in the hall with MC :) 5th period: Bio Rhythms, just the pizzicato parts and also sight-read Dragon Dances.

Thursday: Theory---play your chord progression for each other and explain it. G scale and arpeggio for a grade. Pieces: Play Zydeco from the beginning to the end and sight-read End Pin Rag. What is a rag? 5th period: play El Toro from the 2nd half which begins at measure 30 to the end. Biorhythms from the beginning to measure 30, can you describe what is going in other sections?

Friday: El Toro 30 to the end test. 4th period will continue learning End Pin Rag and play Zydeco from beginning to the end focusing on how to accompany a melody.
