EQ: How do you play apply the B-Flat Major scale to your Music

Sunday, November 15, 2009
4th Period Monday-Friday:  Play the B-Flat one octave scale with smart music. Compare and contrast to the F major scale that we have been learning for the past two weeks.  We will be focusing primarily on intonation in Journey of the Magi.  This week we look at the first page of Journey especially since for upper strings (violins and violas) the notes are the same throughout the entire piece.  Remember violins that you cannot play the E string----MARK YOUR MUSIC!!!  Wednesday you will play the B-flat scale with your section for a grade WITH Smart Music.

We will also learn the rhythm to We Wish you a Merry Tango (especially violas and cellos). This piece is a really cool variation of a popular tune---we are going to jazz it up. All of these songs are on your blog so that you can practice with them.  We will clap the rhythm several times along with compare it to the original melody.  Thursday you must clap and/ or pluck the entire piece with your section.  This will be your Tuesday rhythm section for your warm-up!!!!

Lastly we will continue polishing African Bell Carol especially the eighth notes in the violin and viola parts.

Friday you will have a test on Journey (the first page) in octets.  I will be listening for accurate intonation, bowing (YOU MUST DO THE SLURS), and dynamics.  You must have all of those aspects to achieve an A.  Make sure during sectionals on Wednesday you focus on the above areas with your stand partner.  If your part is not marked, you will NOT succeed.

Learning Goal:
  • Play Journey of the Magi page one with accurate intonation (B-flat Major Scale), bowings, and dynamics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the rhythm in We Wish You a Merry Tango
